The Best Restaurant (靓靓煲汤) in Ipoh specializes in double-boiled soup. While it has an ambitious name, I think it does have a multitude of choices of double boiled soups. Ranging from the opulent “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” (佛跳墙) , the exquisite abalone & shark-fin soup, mid-ranged herbal soups and the every-day soups like old cucumber soup and lotus soup. All the soups are prepared with specific ingredients for specific health benefits, such as anti aging, or for the well being of the heart.
The black chicken with cordycep flowers and scallops soup (虫草花干贝炖乌鸡) is extremely flavorsome (RM16). You can taste the sweetness from the scallops, the cordycep flowers the rich black chicken stock all amalgamated into a wonderful broth. A beauty drink that is also good for the well-being of the liver and lungs.
Feel like getting a natural detoxification? Try the tangerine peel with dried fig soup (陈皮无花果炖鸡汤, RM8) with a crunch of almonds. The soup is a clear, sweet soup beneficial for the digestive system.
Feeling the fatigue after a long day? Try the Du Zhong Chicken Soup (杜仲圆肉炖鸡汤) (RM8). The soup has inherent woody taste because the “du zhong” is actually a type of tree bark, the Eucommia bark. It’s one of the soups that tastes more “herbal” with a faint, bitter after-taste compared to the other soups.
Chicken with sea-coconut soup (海底椰炖鸡汤, RM8) is smooth soup easy to drink, almost too good to be true for something nice and sweet that helps to relive phlegm in the throat.
A portion of the menu is dedicated to single person dishes such as the sweet and sour fish with rice, to cater to the offices around Jalan Yang Kulsom.
Simple vegetable stir fry (RM6 each).
Honey lemon pork rib that is tangy and succulent goes so well with rice. But it doesn’t come cheap; RM 18 for a small portion. This is the part on their menu which I found to be over-priced in a “dai-chow” restaurant setting.
Now comes my favorite part – the desserts! I don’t feel guilty eating all these desserts here. The more I eat, the better it is for me because these are all beauty desserts and not too sweet. This pure brewed winter frog fat dessert (aka hasma) (清炖雪蛤) with dates and gingko is both a beauty and brain booster (RM8) !
The aloe vera with its healing properties is a soothing dessert with red dates (RM4)
Rich in collagen, the white fungus with dates & longan is yet another lovely dessert for girls (RM4)!
