Woo Lan Restaurant @ Brickfields, KL

Woo Lan (壶兰饭店), one of the oldest Chinese Restaurants in KL since Malaysia’s independence, located amidst the Indian neighborhood in Brickfields.   

When I asked the staff what their signature dish is, he proudly pointed to the wall with a beautiful array of their dishes and said “everything on this wall”.  OK.  Now that makes it difficult to choose what to eat!

Look at this fantastic piece of braised pork (东坡肉)(RM25), piquant with the essential braising herb, the star anise. It is stewed till fragile and easily pulled apart with the utensils.  A gorgeous dish presented with green vegetables and white buns.

The assam prawns (RM30) are lavish! Almost too many! With the bouncy and crunchy prawns,  it is not your typical assam prawn dish where the amount of vegetables is usually much much more than the prawns.

Simple stir-fry vegetables (RM8).

The FOC old cucumber soup is surprisingly intense and aromatic from the dried squid.  It’s not your normal FOC soup!

The restaurant is fairly small and as you can see most of the tables are reserved (with the red cloth), leaving only few tables for walk-ins.  So either be there early or call for reservation.
